CURRENT EVENTS AUTUMN 2002

We were delighted to have a group of seven students and one teacher visiting our school during the week 23.09. - 30.09.2002. We had made a plan to have a many-sided program that should contain topics concerning the theme of our project TOLERANCE. We visited on the 26th of September the Refugee centre in Oulu, or asylum seeker’s centre as they themselves call the place (see the link Refugee centre). On Wednesday we organised a concert of African music to all students in our school and a seminar on the topic tolerance which was common to both project groups (see the link Seminar). On Friday we visited The Ranua wild animal zoo and the Santa Claus village on Arctic Circle. And on the same day we had a guided tour in Arktikum-house where we saw an exhibition telling about the life of arctic original nations (see the link Ranua-Rovaniemi).

Besides the Hungarian teacher Istvan Kovács played chess simultaneously against 17 students and one teacher. Istvan won all the games against Finnish players (see the link Chessmatch).

Saturday was reserved for the host families to have a program of their own, and on Sunday it was already time for a farewell evening which we had in Saukkola, a cottage of Etelä-Iin Erä ry. (a local hunting club) (see the link Freetime).

Our project on TOLERANCE is also continuing as we have planned. There is a group of 12 students and two teachers going to visit Hungary Dunaharaszti on the 22nd may 2003 for one week.
