TOLERANCE – ARE YOU MORE DIFFERENT THAN I AM?

CO-OPERATIVE PROJECT WITH BAKTÁY ERWIN GIMNÁZIUM IN DUNAHARASZTI, HUNGARY

A SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

Iin lukio has been working together with Baktáy Erwin Gimnázium for six years. The main goal for this work has been to educate the students of both schools for international relationships and to get to know the cultures of Finland and Hungary. The main topic up till this year has been the UNESCO’s World Heritage program and the local history of Ii and Budapest area. (for more information: http://www.iiseutu.fi/ii_kunta/lukio

In the next two years from August 2001 onwards we are going to work on tolerance. Students participating in the project will study the refugee policy of both countries and how refugees and other national minorities live in Ii and Dunaharaszti and what kind of relations they have with local people.

Students will, for example, study how minorities get education for their children and themselves. The focus will especially be on problems concerning their language, and what kind of work they can get in a foreign country.

POSSIBLE CO-WORKING INSTANCES

During the project we will try to work together with local Refugee Centres and schools which provide teaching in minority languages. We will try to get in contact with refugees and national minorities living in Ii and Dunaharaszti.
